I have been enjoying listening to the news once more without the constant chatter about our disreputable past president, but recent news articles about GOP leaders cozying up to Trump make me wonder if this is a lull in Trump coverage or a masking of worrisome behavior that has gone dark and secret. It is like an old gangster/Mafia movie where the godfather runs the rackets from a swank cell in some federal prison. Think Edward G. Robinson.
I worry that even if the NY lawyers can win their cases against him, he will still command the loyalty of the crazies and continue to influence American politics. I don’t get it. As hard as I try to understand the draw, the only two things I can come up with are white supremacy. i.e., racism, and the cult of celebrity.
My arthritis is finally under control, and I have had my first Covid-19 vaccination, with the second one promised in a week. I thought I could get my life back, along with some hope for America’s future—for the planet’s future. But a cloud of impending doom looms heavily on the horizon. We are not done yet!
